PLN Ensures Reliable Electricity for Eid Holidays
Jakarta. State-run utility firm PLN has assured that the national electricity system would remain reliable during the Eid holiday season.
The company has estimated that the peak electricity load during the Eid season would reach 35,017 megawatts (MW). With a supply capacity of 51,967 MW, there is still sufficient reserve power of 16,950 MW.
"PLN shall remain on standby to ensure a reliable electricity system across the archipelago during the Eid holidays," PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo was quoted as saying in a press statement.
PLN has also conducted thorough assessments in advance from the upstream side (power generation) to the downstream (distribution).
"We have also checked that the national primary energy supply is secure, from coal and gas to fuel. Maintenance of the transmission system and substations was also completed well before Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr," Darmawan said.
PLN has deployed 72,053 personnel across 3,700 standby posts throughout Indonesia during the RAFI 2026 period. This personnel mobility is supported by 4,901 operational vehicles and 4,594 operational motorcycles to ensure a rapid response in the event of a power outage.
"Our officers are working hard to ensure a secure electricity supply in the field. We are also implementing multi-layered security measures at priority locations expected to experience increased public activity during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr, such as places of worship, transportation hubs, busy centers, shopping malls, and hospitals," said Darmawan.
To support field operations, PLN has prepared various supporting equipment, including 2,005 generators, 773 uninterruptible power supply (UPS) units, 1,349 mobile substations (UGB), and 429 truck cranes ready for use. These efforts are being taken to ensure a reliable electricity supply for the community.
"With sufficient power reserves, the national electricity system is secure. This allows the public to enjoy gatherings and perform Ramadan prayers and celebrate Eid al-Fitr comfortably," added Darmawan.
As for the Java–Madura–Bali (Jamali) electricity system, PLN projects a peak load of 22,453 MW with a supply capacity of 33,497 MW, ensuring the system remains secure with a reserve power of approximately 11,044 MW.
Darmawan recently inspected several strategic power plants, including the Cilegon plant in Banten. This combined cycle power plant, operated by the subholding PLN Indonesia Power, has an installed capacity of 740 MW, consisting of two 240 MW gas turbine units and one 260 MW steam turbine unit. This plant plays a crucial role in supporting the reliability of the Cilegon 150-kilovolt (kV) subsystem, which supplies electricity to industrial areas and communities in the Banten region and is also connected to the Java–Bali interconnection system.
PLN Indonesia Power President Director Bernardus Sudarmanta emphasized that his company continues to strive to ensure all generating units are in optimal condition to support system reliability during the Eid holidays.
"All the machines at the Cilegon plant are in prime condition to support electricity system reliability during the Eid season. We have prepared standby personnel, ensured equipment reliability, and conducted intensive operational monitoring to ensure a reliable electricity supply for the public and industry," Bernardus said.
