Jakarta. Indonesia has officially opened the national energy post for the energy sector as countless people gear up for the Eid homecoming exodus.

The state utility firm PLN also expressed readiness to maintain a reliable power supply while also setting up electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.

These posts will run from March 12 to 31. They will also serve as a coordination center to ensure adequate energy supply and accessibility for all levels of society.

"Our primary concern is the public safety and comfort. We certainly need to ensure this. We also ensure sufficient and accessible energy for everyone without exception. This is part of our oversight," Deputy Energy Minister Yuliot Tanjung said.

Erika Retnowati, who heads the energy sector post also known as 2026 RAFI, said this would require everyone to work together.

"We hope this collaboration can ensure that everything runs smoothly, so people can celebrate Eid safely and happily," Erika said.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo stated that PLN is ready to support the government's directives by ensuring the national electricity system is safe and under control. Nationally, the peak load during the 2026 RAFI period is projected to reach 47.20 gigawatts (GW), with sufficient generating capacity of 51.61 GW, resulting in a power reserve of 4.41 GW, or approximately 9.3%.

To maintain a reliable electricity supply, PLN has also deployed approximately 72,000 personnel at 4,137 standby posts, equipped with various supporting equipment, such as 2,005 generators, 773 uninterruptible power supplies, 1,349 mobile substations, 429 truck cranes, 4,901 operational vehicles, and 4,594 operational motorcycles.

"We not only maintain the national electricity supply, but also ensure that every electrical system and subsystem, down to the regional and local levels, is safe and reliable," said Darmawan.

Darmawan revealed that the growth of EVs in Indonesia continues to show a positive trend. This year, the number of travelers using EVs for Eid al-Fitr is projected to increase by almost 10,000 vehicles. This brings the total number of EV travelers to more than 23,000, representing an approximately 1.6-fold increase compared to Eid al-Fitr 2025.

To anticipate this surge, PLN has provided 1,681 charging stations at 994 locations along the main Trans-Sumatra-Java-Bali homecoming route, an approximately 1.7-fold increase compared to the 2025 Eid al-Fitr period.

"We are ensuring that all charging infrastructure is ready to support the needs of electric vehicle travelers, ensuring a safe and comfortable journey. Not only on the main homecoming routes, but nationally, PLN and its partners have prepared 4,769 charging stations spread across 3,097 strategic locations throughout Indonesia," Darmawan said.

To ensure smooth electric vehicle service, PLN has also prepared 15 mobile charging stations and more than 5,000 personnel on standby 24/7. Travelers can also utilize digital service features through the PLN Mobile app, such as the Trip Planner to find SPKLU locations along their route and AntreEV to monitor charging queues in real time.

"For electric vehicle users who need assistance, simply report through the PLN Mobile app or the SPKLU service hotline via WhatsApp at 087-77-1112-123, which is accessible 24/7," Darmawan said.
