Jakarta. State-owned power utility PLN successfully staged the PLN Electric Run 2025 in Bumi Serpong Damai on Sunday, attracting more than 7,500 runners and cutting an estimated 21.8 tons of CO₂ through energy efficiency, green electricity, and carbon offset measures.

Under the theme “Recharge as One”, the event blended healthy living with environmental awareness. Participants ranged from the general public, students, running communities, PLN employees, and national athletes. The race featured 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon categories.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said the Electric Run has grown beyond its role as an annual sports event, becoming a platform to socialize the company’s long-term push toward clean energy.

“PLN Electric Run 2025 is not just about sports. It’s a symbol of Indonesia’s energy renewal. Through the theme Recharge as One, we invite the public to recharge their spirit, strengthen togetherness, and move toward a greener future,” Darmawan said before flagging off runners at the starting line.

All electricity required at the venue was supplied using green power. PLN Nusantara Power and PLN Indonesia Power deployed hydrogen-based generators and mobile solar power units, ensuring the race operated fully on zero-emission technology.

To neutralize all remaining emissions, including on-site energy use, transportation, and participant activity, PLN Energy Management Indonesia carried out carbon offsets. This made the PLN Electric Run the first running event in Indonesia to achieve net-zero emissions.

“There were no greenhouse gas emissions produced from end to end. All generators ran on hydrogen, supported by solar power. This truly minimized emissions,” Darmawan said.

PLN also converted the event’s emission reduction value into social benefits by providing electric-powered rice milling machines to farming groups across Indonesia. The assistance, distributed through the Indonesian Rice Milling Entrepreneurs Association (Perpadi), aims to reduce emissions in agriculture while boosting farmer welfare.

“With this approach, clean energy not only protects the environment. It uplifts local economies,” he added.

This year’s participation grew sharply to 7,500 runners, up from 5,000 in 2023 and 6,000 in 2024. Carbon reduction also improved from 14.3 tons of CO₂ last year to 21.8 tons this year.

“The rising enthusiasm shows greater public awareness about clean energy and sustainable living. PLN wants to keep contributing, not just as a power provider, but as a pioneer in protecting the environment and the planet’s future,” Darmawan said.
