Jakarta. State-owned electricity provider PLN has received recognition from the Immigration and Corrections Ministry for its commitment to empowering inmates at the Nusakambangan correctional facility through the Nusakambangan Berdaya program.

The award was presented during the anniversary celebration of the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections held at Cipinang Penitentiary in Jakarta on Wednesday.

The Nusakambangan Berdaya initiative equips inmates with practical skills to process fly ash bottom ash (FABA) from PLN’s Adipala coal-fired power plant into commercially valuable products such as concrete bricks, paving blocks, ventilation blocks, and concrete culverts. The program is seen as an important step in transforming correctional facilities into centers of empowerment, enabling inmates to reintegrate into society with stronger and more productive skills.

Immigration and Corrections Minister Agus Andrianto said the award reflects the government’s appreciation for partner institutions, including PLN, that support the ministry’s mandate.

“This award is a form of appreciation for the partners who have supported the ministry’s duties and functions throughout the year. This collaboration reflects the President’s message that all elements of the nation must move together, strengthening one another to achieve meaningful progress,” Agus said.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo expressed gratitude for the recognition, highlighting the role of electricity in improving livelihoods.

“For PLN, electricity is a catalyst for development. It creates economic opportunities, employment, and stronger community welfare. We are committed to collaborations that deliver tangible benefits to society. Our appreciation goes to the Ministry for this partnership, and this award motivates us to further expand the positive impact of electrification across Indonesia,” Darmawan said.

PLN Director of Retail and Commerce Adi Priyanto added that skills development for inmates provides long-term community benefits and opens new economic pathways once they reenter society.

“We are committed to ensuring that the collaboration between PLN and the Ministry through Nusakambangan Berdaya delivers long-term benefits for inmates. PLN is grateful for the space to collaborate and continue contributing to community empowerment,” Adi said.
