Indonesia AI Center of Excellence Empowers the Nation’s AI Future Through Collaboration
Jakarta. Indonesia is taking an important step toward becoming a leader in artificial intelligence with the launch of the Indonesia AI Center of Excellence, a collaborative initiative spearheaded by the Communication and Digital Affairs Ministry (Komdigi) with strong support from Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, Cisco, and NVIDIA.
This initiative is not just a cross-sector collaboration platform but is anchored by six strategic pillars designed to drive comprehensive and sustainable AI development across the country.
The pillars include fostering innovation, developing digital talent, and ensuring ethical and responsible AI policy frameworks. Through its AI Sandbox, the initiative aims to develop practical AI applications in priority sectors, while training and certification programs will equip tens of thousands of digital talents with critical AI and data skills.
An accelerator program will nurture the growth of local startups, while an enterprise hub will encourage industry collaboration to create real-world AI solutions. Additionally, a national-scale Large Language Model development platform and an AI policy think tank forum will serve as key foundations for building an inclusive, adaptive, and globally competitive AI ecosystem.
"AI should not be about technology alone, it must ensure equitable access," said Vikram Sinha, President Director and CEO of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison on Monday.
“At Indosat, we believe AI must be inclusive, not just about access, but about opening opportunities. With the support of global partners, we aim to accelerate Indonesia’s growth by empowering our people to become creators and innovators, not just users of AI,” he added.
This commitment aligns with Indosat’s broader mission of empowering Indonesia by strengthening globally competitive local talent and ensuring technology benefits all layers of society.
Chuck Robbins, Chair and Chief Executive Officer of Cisco, highlighted the critical role of strong infrastructure and a skilled workforce in enabling Indonesia’s AI transformation.
“Through our collaboration with Komdigi, Indosat, and NVIDIA, Cisco supports the Indonesia AI Center of Excellence as a secure, intelligent foundation ready to meet the challenges of the digital economy,” Robbins said.
Cisco’s involvement, leveraging its intelligent infrastructure, ensures the security and reliability of the AI ecosystem being developed, further strengthening its 25-year partnership with Indonesia’s public and private sectors in building a resilient and sustainable digital ecosystem.
With six robust pillars and strong backing from strategic partners, the Indonesia AI Center of Excellence is poised to be a key driver in unlocking Indonesia’s AI potential and positioning the country as a significant player on the global AI stage.
