Indonesia Accelerates AI Adoption in Finance; Indosat Takes Lead through National Partnerships
Jakarta. Digital transformation in Indonesia’s financial sector has entered a more strategic phase. At the Indonesia AI Day for Financial Industry, themed “Empower the Future of Indonesia’s Financial,” the government and industry leaders emphasized the need to accelerate artificial intelligence adoption to strengthen national economic stability and competitiveness.
The event, held Thursday at the Park Hyatt Hotel Jakarta, was organized by Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison as part of the company’s ongoing contribution to the development of Indonesia’s national AI ecosystem.
In his opening remarks, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto expressed appreciation for Indosat’s consistent role in strengthening Indonesia’s digital infrastructure.
“Thank you to Indosat for continuously taking an active role in building the AI ecosystem in Indonesia. Industry support, especially from companies like Indosat, is vital in strengthening the foundation of our digital transformation, particularly in the financial sector,” Airlangga said.
He stressed that AI adoption must prioritize fairness and balance across the financial system. Technology, he said, must not benefit only a portion of the economy, but instead reinforce financial stability as a whole.
“AI must advance public welfare and make our economy more resilient. It will also enhance the quality of supervision and risk management,” he added.
This view aligns with Indosat’s commitment to leveraging AI to strengthen payment systems, transaction security, and risk assessment in the financial industry.
AI as a Foundation of Modern Digital Finance
Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison Director & Chief Business Officer Muhammad Buldansyah said that AI has become a critical foundation for supporting the rapid development of digital finance.
“Digital payments, credit risk management, and consumer protection are areas that require strong AI capabilities. This technology enables the industry to understand customers more precisely and respond to risks in real time,” he explained.
He noted that large-scale data integration, cross-platform connectivity, and high-capacity computing are now essential for building sustainable financial services in the digital era.
Strengthening the AI Foundation for The ASEAN Financial Ecosystem
Airlangga also highlighted the progress of the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA), one of the most advanced digital economy agreements in the world. With Indonesia now positioned as the fourth largest AI market in Asia, the need for nationwide technological infrastructure has become increasingly urgent.
Indosat’s transformation into an AI-native telco, combined with investment in data center networks and integrated AI services, positions the company as a key driver in strengthening Indonesia’s financial system.
“With strong support from industry players, particularly technology providers like Indosat, Indonesia can accelerate progress toward a sovereign and globally competitive digital economy,” Airlangga said.
