Jakarta.  FEUI Class of '86 alumni recently shared their real-world experience to current students.

These are the graduates of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Indonesia Class of 1986.

As part of their 40th year reunion celebrations, the alumni held a seminar and career advice day. Notable figures like Chatib Basri (visiting scholar, Harvard CID & Visiting Prof in Practice LSE), Loto Srinaita Ginting (MSMEs Ministry Secretary),  and Firman Yosafat Siregar (Group Chief Executive Officer Astra Infra) showed up as speakers.

The same goes for Johannes Tanuwijaya (CEO PT Cipta Harmoni Lestari & Strategic Advisor Bumitama Agri Ltd) and Peter Surja (Country Managing Partner EY Indonesia).

Also present as the moderator was independent commissioner of PT Perta Life Insurance Haris Anwar.

The session had the speakers giving some tips on how to navigate the world of work and determine their career path.

"We want to turn the 40-year celebration not just a nostalgic event to admire the old days, but a real act of solidarity and progressive service across generations," Sylvia M Siregar, who heads the career advice day team, said. 

The FEUI 86 Reunion Committee focuses on two programs, with the first being a mentorship initiative.

Under this pillar, students are trained through simulations of solving complex real-world business cases on Career Advice Day to hone critical thinking, leadership, and strategic communication skills. They get an exclusive opportunity to have a one-on-one mentorship with senior alumni. There are also seminars where students can gain the latest insight into global macroeconomics from the perspectives of experts who are also FEUI alumni.

The second initiative places more focus on supporting education access via Astra Infra's scholarship program. The FEUI 86 Reunion Committee has partnered with Astra Infra to distribute educational assistance funds. The benefits are as follows:

•Equal Access & Study Protection: This financial assistance is allocated specifically and measurably to support the continuity of study for active FEB UI students, enabling them to complete their studies without being hampered by money problems.

• Periodic Academic Development Monitoring: Each scholarship recipient is integrated into a regular academic progress report system which is monitored directly by the committee and sponsor to ensure that academic achievement is maintained optimally.

• Sustainable HR Investment (Sustainable Impact): The partnership with Astra Infra puts emphasis on the synergy between the industry, alumni associations, and educational institutions.

Astra Infra has also had other education-related initiatives, which include school guidance, increasing teacher capacity, strengthening literacy, and developing environmentally friendly schools through the Adiwiyata Program, as well as traffic safety education. Until mid-2026, Astra Infra has developed 48 schools and distributed scholarships to 420 students in all operational areas.

Astra has also provided scholarships and educational programs to Sekolah Khusus Aditya Silih Asih to ensure inclusive education. It has also provided coffee training for the inclusive education provider Wahana Inklusif, led by the visually impaired baristas of Mata Hati Koffie.

The "Career Advice Day" marks the beginning of a major agenda for the FEUI Class of '86 40th Reunion Committee. An official alumni e-book is set for launch on Oct. 17.

The committee has also partnered with Astra Infra, PT Grab Teknologi Indonesia, and Yayasan Griya Filoksenia Kreatif to boost the current students' competencies.
