Jakarta. State-owned lender Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI) has deployed volunteers to support disaster response and early recovery efforts for communities affected by natural disasters in Aceh, as part of a joint initiative by state-owned enterprises under the BUMN Peduli program.

BNI’s participation forms part of the “One Heart for Sumatra” humanitarian action coordinated by Danantara Indonesia, which mobilized hundreds of volunteers from eleven state-owned companies to strengthen relief efforts in affected areas.

The volunteers have been assigned primarily to North Aceh Utara and Southeast Aceh, which serve as the main coordination posts for disaster response operations. Their deployment aims to accelerate humanitarian assistance and the initial recovery of communities impacted by the disaster.

The volunteers were officially dispatched from Kualanamu International Airport in Medan in a ceremony led by Danantara Indonesia Chief Operating Officer Dony Oskaria, and attended by representatives of state-owned enterprises, including BNI.

On the ground, BNI volunteers are involved in distributing logistical aid, cleaning residential areas, homes, and public facilities, and supporting community recovery activities to help restore daily life following the disaster.

To support field operations, BNI also delivered logistical assistance using three trucks carrying cleaning supplies, sanitation equipment, and supporting tools such as water tanks, water pumps, generators, and volunteer safety gear. The assistance is intended to meet the immediate needs of affected residents and ensure the effectiveness of volunteer operations.

BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo said the deployment reflects the bank’s commitment to social responsibility as a state-owned enterprise.

“Through the direct involvement of our volunteers, BNI wants to ensure that assistance not only reaches affected areas but is also genuinely felt by the communities. We hope their presence helps accelerate recovery so residents can gradually return to normal activities,” Okki said in a statement.

The BNI volunteers involved in the operation were drawn from various units across Sumatra.

Okki added that the collaboration among state-owned enterprises underscores a strong collective commitment to serving and protecting the public, particularly during emergency situations caused by natural disasters.
