BNI Provides Trauma Healing for Children Affected by Floods in Southeast Aceh
Southeast Aceh. State lender PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, or BNI, is assisting in the psychosocial recovery of children affected by flash floods in Leuser Village, Southeast Aceh Regency.
This effort underscores BNI's commitment to post-disaster recovery that focuses not only on physical and logistical assistance, but also on mental recovery and psychological well-being of vulnerable groups, especially children.
BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo said the trauma-healing services are part of the bank’s social and environmental responsibility policy, aimed at supporting sustainable recovery. Through the BUMN Peduli “Satu Hati untuk Sumatra” (One Heart for Sumatra) program, and in coordination with Danantara, BNI has joined other state-owned enterprises in providing psychosocial assistance to children affected by disasters.
“BNI believes that post-disaster recovery must be carried out comprehensively. Not only rebuilding physically, but also ensuring the mental health and psychosocial well-being of children as the future generation is maintained,” said Okki in a written statement.
The trauma-healing activity is part of the BNI Berbagi social responsibility program’s quick-impact initiatives and was held at the BUMN Volunteer Command Post in Leuser Village. Led by facilitators experienced in assisting children in disaster-affected areas, the program provides a safe space for children to play, interact, and express their feelings in a positive way.
Through play, art, and social interaction, children are gradually encouraged to reduce their fears, channel their emotions, and rebuild their confidence after the disaster. Various activities are carried out, ranging from simple group games and singing to dance movements aimed at creating a safe atmosphere and supporting the psychological recovery process.
“Warm and empathetic interactions between volunteers and children are an important part of this assistance, so that the recovery process can proceed naturally and sustainably,” added Okki.
The presence of BUMN volunteers alongside the BNI Berbagi program in Leuser Village sent a clear message that affected communities are not alone in coping with the aftermath of the disaster. Children, as a particularly vulnerable group, require special attention to ensure recovery takes place holistically, both physically and psychosocially.
In the future, similar activities will be gradually expanded to other BNI posts in Southeast Aceh, North Aceh, and Aceh Tamiang, in line with BNI's commitment to supporting inclusive and sustainable recovery for communities affected by disasters.
Through the BNI Berbagi program and the synergy of BUMN Peduli, BNI affirms its commitment to continue playing an active role in supporting post-disaster recovery, believing that the psychological recovery of children is an important foundation for a more resilient community.
