Jakarta. Bank Raya, a subsidiary of Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) Group, has been recognized at the 2025 Katadata Green Initiatives Awards (KGIA) for its commitment to advancing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. The bank received the award in the “Inclusive Finance for Coastal Conservation” category during a ceremony at the Kempinski Grand Ballroom, Jakarta.

The award highlights Bank Raya’s alignment of its ESG framework with corporate social responsibility (CSR) goals, emphasizing both social impact and added value to communities.

“We are committed to being a company that creates benefits for society while ensuring sustainable long-term business growth,” said Danar Widyantoro, Bank Raya’s Director of Risk Management, Compliance, and Human Resources. “Our ESG initiatives integrate environmental, social, and governance aspects to align with green banking principles. We continue to develop digital products for micro and small enterprises, supporting the green economy under sound governance.”

Bank Raya has stepped up its sustainable financing efforts, with loans to MSMEs categorized under Sustainable Business Groups rising from Rp 1.88 trillion ($113 million) in June 2024 to Rp 2.23 trillion ($134.2 million) by June 2025. The bank also tracks its carbon footprint and has reported operational savings, including an 8.47 percent cut in water use, a reduction of 0.47 tons in paper waste, and a 29 percent drop in fuel consumption compared with 2023.

On the community side, Bank Raya engages its customers through the Mission VGNZ Program (MVP) Aksi Tanam 1000 Kebaikan, part of the Pantura Green Belt CSR Program at Mangunharjo Beach in Semarang, Central Java. The initiative allows customers to contribute to mangrove planting for every financial transaction made through the Raya app.

Running from March to July 2025, the program has attracted more than 3,500 customers, generated Rp 660.3 million in transaction volume, and funded the planting of 3,500 mangrove trees. Maintenance and monitoring of the mangroves will continue until 2027.

“This recognition motivates us to push ESG principles further,” Danar added. “We remain committed to reducing emissions and environmental impacts while strengthening our role as a leading digital bank that widens financial access and literacy across Indonesia.”
