VP Gibran: Ex-President SBY in Good Health, Allowed to Return Home
Jakarta. Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka visited Indonesia’s sixth president, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), at Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital (RSPAD) in Central Jakarta on Monday as the former president continues his recovery.
Gibran, who had just returned from Solo after attending the closing of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) Congress on Sunday, was seen visiting SBY around midday on Monday, according to a post on the Vice President’s Instagram account.
“Praise be to God, he has been allowed to return home. Let us pray for SBY’s continued health,” Gibran wrote in the caption accompanying a photo of the visit.
SBY, who has been undergoing treatment at RSPAD, is reportedly in stable condition. An update on his health was first shared on Saturday through the family’s Instagram account, @aniyudhoyono, which posted a photo showing SBY with an IV attached to his right hand.
Sources close to the family said the former president was admitted to the hospital due to exhaustion and dehydration following a busy schedule, prompting swift medical attention to support his recovery.
On Sunday, senior Democratic Party politician Teuku Riefky Harsya also visited SBY at the hospital’s Kartika Pavilion.
“SBY’s condition has improved. We had a conversation, and he looked bright and cheerful,” Teuku Riefky told reporters.
Despite undergoing treatment, SBY has remained active and positive during his recovery, continuing to paint, a hobby and personal therapy he has maintained, even from his hospital room.
SBY served as Indonesia’s sixth president from 2004 to 2014, becoming the country’s first directly elected president. Born on September 9, 1949, in Pacitan, East Java, SBY is a retired four-star army general and a graduate of the Indonesian Military Academy and Webster University in the United States. After leaving office, SBY continued to lead the Democratic Party.
