Jakarta. A tanker truck carrying chemical fluid collided with six motorcycles on Plumpang Semper Street, North Jakarta, on Wednesday afternoon, killing at least four people and injuring five others.

The fatalities include the truck driver, whose identity has not been disclosed.

A woman was trapped beneath the truck and it took two hours for firefighters to rescue her using jacks and hydraulic supports. She was rushed to the Koja Municipal Hospital with serious injuries.

Gatot Sulaeman, operational head of North Jakarta’s Fire Department, said the truck suddenly lost control and hit six motorcycles and cars on the left side of the road.

"The truck ran uncontrollably and hit several motorcycles. It’s unclear if brake failure is a factor," Gatot said.
