Jakarta. Social Affairs Minister Tri Rismaharini, better known as Risma, has officially resigned to focus on her gubernatorial bid in East Java, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo confirmed on Friday.

The president said he accepted the resignation and appointed Muhadjir Effendy, the Coordinating Minister for Culture and Human Development, to take over Risma’s duties.

Jokowi himself will end his term on October 20.

"She tendered her resignation and I accepted,” Jokowi said during a visit to Surabaya, where Risma was a mayor before her ministerial appointment in 2020.

Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung is poised to become the second cabinet member to resign after securing the nomination for the Jakarta gubernatorial election.

Both Risma and Pramono are executives of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P).

Last month, Jokowi replaced Justice Minister Yasonna Laoly, also a PDI-P executive, in a late cabinet reshuffle just two months to his retirement.
