Gerindra Leads PDI-P, Golkar in Latest Party Electability Survey
Jakarta. The Gerindra Party leads Indonesia’s political party electability with 23.2%, putting it ahead of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) and Golkar, which ranked second and third, respectively.
The finding came from a face-to-face survey by Poltracking Indonesia conducted from Aug. 14 to 20, 2026, involving 1,220 respondents across 38 provinces.
“The Gerindra Party, with 23.2% electability, remains ahead of the other parties. PDI-P is in second place at 11.6%, followed by Golkar at 10.4%,” Poltracking Indonesia researcher Yoki Alvetro said during the online release of the survey on Wednesday.
In the middle of the ranking, the National Awakening Party (PKB) and Democratic Party were separated by just 0.1 percentage point, at 6.2% and 6.1%, respectively. The NasDem Party followed at 4.4%.
Meanwhile, several parties remained below the 4% parliamentary threshold. The National Mandate Party (PAN) stood at 3.4%, followed by the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) at 3.3%. The Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) recorded 2.3%, while the United Development Party (PPP) stood at 1.9%.
Political Figures Remain Strong in Public Memory
Gerindra’s lead also comes as political figures remain strongly associated with their respective parties. In an open-ended top-of-mind question, Prabowo Subianto was the figure most associated with Gerindra, at 26.1%.
Megawati Soekarnoputri was most associated with PDI-P, at 17%, while former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was associated with the Democratic Party by 16% of respondents.
Despite Gerindra’s lead in the electoral map, Poltracking found that most Indonesians still do not feel close to any political party. Some 66.8% of respondents said they did not feel close to or part of any particular political party, while only 12.3% said they felt attached to one.
The weak attachment to political parties was also reflected in voters’ preferences in legislative elections. Some 53.3% of respondents said they were more likely to vote for individual legislative candidates, compared with 24.7% who said they would choose based on political parties.
However, despite the tendency to focus on individual candidates, 57.6% of respondents said they did not know or were unfamiliar with the members of the House of Representatives representing their electoral districts.
The survey also found that support from political parties for presidential and vice presidential candidates does not automatically translate into support for those parties. Some 44.6% of respondents said a party’s support for a presidential ticket did not affect their choice of political party.
