Jakarta. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Monday launched another sting operation in Riau Province, detaining Governor Abdul Wahid and several other individuals on suspicion of involvement in graft linked to public infrastructure projects.

KPK Deputy Chair Fitroh Rohcahyanto confirmed that Wahid was among those taken into custody. “Yes, one of those arrested is the Riau governor,” he told reporters late Monday.

The arrests are believed to be connected to alleged corrupt practices inside the Riau Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency (PUPR). Fitroh declined to provide further details on the identities of those apprehended or the items seized during the operation.

In keeping with Indonesian legal procedure, the KPK now has 24 hours to determine the legal status of each detained individual. Fitroh said the agency will deliver a formal statement via a press conference once initial questioning is completed at the KPK headquarters in Jakarta.

As of Monday night, investigators were still conducting intensive questioning.

With Abdul Wahid’s arrest, he becomes the fourth Riau governor to be implicated in a corruption case, following Saleh Djasit, Rusli Zainal, and Annas Ma’mun. This is KPK's sixth sting operation this year.
