Central Lombok.  An indecent video allegedly involving two foreign nationals on Mandalika Beach, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), has gone viral after being posted on Facebook.

The video shows behavior deemed inappropriate by local social and religious norms, causing outrage in a region known for its "Island of a Thousand Mosques" and its status as a halal tourism destination.

Central Lombok Police are investigating both the video and its uploader, with potential charges under pornography laws. Authorities have also urged tourism operators to educate guests on respecting local customs.

"We will increase patrols in tourist areas and collaborate with managers to ensure local cultural values are upheld," Central Lombok Police spokesperson Lalu Brata Kusnadi said on Wednesday.

Community leaders expressed concern that the incident could damage Mandalika's image as a family-friendly, halal destination and provoke local anger.

"The perpetrators could become targets of mass outrage. We fear vigilante actions if this situation isn't addressed quickly," said Mandalika community leader Rata Wijaya, adding that he also worried about possible hotel sweeps in response to the incident.
