Jakarta. Police in Jakarta are investigating the alleged abduction of Indonesian female golfer Jesslyn Wijaya after she was reportedly taken by a group of men during a family gathering earlier this month, despite a request to withdraw the case.

The alleged incident occurred on July 13 while Jesslyn was attending her grandmother's birthday celebration at a restaurant in the Mangga Besar area of Central Jakarta, according to police. The case gained widespread attention after reports of the alleged abduction circulated on social media.

Based on the initial police report, five unidentified men allegedly covered the victim's eyes and mouth before forcibly carrying her into a waiting vehicle.

Central Jakarta Police's Criminal Investigation Unit chief, AKBP Roby Heri Saputra, said officers received a missing person report from the victim's close friend, identified only by the initials NH, on July 13.

"We received a report regarding the victim's disappearance. Investigators immediately visited the scene, questioned several witnesses, and secured and examined CCTV footage to identify those allegedly involved," Roby said on Monday.

Police said preliminary findings indicate that the victim is believed to be outside Jakarta, but investigators have not yet confirmed her whereabouts or condition.

On Sunday, the complainant requested that the police withdraw the report. However, investigators declined to process the request because the investigation is still ongoing.

"We have not processed the request to withdraw the report because the investigation is still underway. Investigators still need to question the victim and her family to determine whether a criminal offense occurred," Roby said.

Police are continuing to question witnesses and analyze CCTV footage as they seek to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction.
