Jakarta. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has summoned former state pension fund Taspen president director Antonius N.S. Kosasih for questioning as part of an ongoing investigation into a Rp 1 trillion ($62 million) fake investment scheme at the state-owned insurance firm.

Kosasih, who led Taspen from 2020 until April 2024, was previously convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Jakarta Anti-Corruption Court earlier this month. Despite the conviction, the KPK continues to probe the broader corruption scheme involving Taspen’s investment management.

“KPK has scheduled the examination of witness Antonius N.S. Kosasih today in connection with alleged corruption in investment management at Taspen,” said KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo on Thursday. “The questioning is being held at the KPK’s Merah Putih building.”

In its verdict on Oct. 6, the Central Jakarta Corruption Court found Kosasih guilty of colluding in a fraudulent investment that caused Rp 1 trillion in state losses. Chief Judge Purwanto Abdullah said the panel was convinced that Kosasih had “committed corruption jointly and deliberately,” as charged by prosecutors.

The court also imposed a Rp 500 million fine, or an additional six months in jail if unpaid, and ordered Kosasih to return replacement money totaling Rp 29.15 billion along with foreign currencies, including $127,057, S$283,002, €10,000, and other amounts in Thai baht, British pounds, Japanese yen, Hong Kong dollars, South Korean won, and Indonesian rupiah.

Should Kosasih fail to repay the replacement sum, the court ruled he must serve an additional three years in prison.

Kosasih’s defense team has filed an appeal, meaning the verdict has yet to gain permanent legal force. The KPK said it is ready to counter the appeal with professionalism.

“The prosecution team will respond appropriately and prepare a counter-appeal memorandum once we receive the appeal submission from the defendant,” said KPK prosecutor Greafik Loserte.
