Jakarta. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has reportedly arrested Bekasi Regent Ade Kuswara and his father, Kunang, in a two-day sting operation carried out in Bekasi, West Java, on Dec. 17–18.

Ade Kuswara, his father, and eight other individuals are currently undergoing intensive questioning at KPK’s Merah Putih headquarters in Kuningan, South Jakarta. KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo confirmed on Friday that the regent was among the ten people detained.

According to information obtained by Beritasatu.com, the operation is linked to alleged extortion and bribery involving projects in Bekasi Regency. Ade Kuswara is accused of accepting kickbacks related to local government projects. In a separate extortion case, the regent and his father are reportedly victims of coercion by officials from the Bekasi District Prosecutor’s Office.

KPK has sealed several locations connected to the case, including the regent’s office at the Bekasi government complex in Cikarang and the offices of the Bekasi Culture, Youth, and Sports Agency (Disbudpora). The commission is expected to determine the legal status of all detainees within 24 hours and announce formal charges at a public press conference.

In separate but near-simultaneous operations, KPK has also detained multiple prosecutors and other individuals in stings conducted over the past two days in Banten, Jakarta, and South Kalimantan. On Thursday, investigators arrested three prosecutors assigned to Hulu Sungai Utara district in South Kalimantan as part of an operation that netted six people.

Those arrests followed another sting a day earlier in Banten and Jakarta, where nine people were detained between Wednesday afternoon and late evening. The detainees included one law enforcement officer, two lawyers, and six private-sector individuals, with about Rp 900 million ($54,000) in cash seized as evidence. Sources said the law enforcement officer was a prosecutor from the Banten Provincial Prosecutor’s Office, and the case is believed to be linked to alleged bribery in the processing of foreign worker permits.
