Jokowi Elevates Indonesia and Sets Benchmark for Future Leaders: Enggartiasto
Jakarta. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has propelled Indonesia to new heights through extensive infrastructure development and a no-nonsense approach to tackling economic and political challenges during his decade-long leadership, a former aide said on Tuesday.
Enggartiasto Lukita, who served as trade minister from 2016 to 2019, told the audience at the BNI Investor Daily Summit that Jokowi's administration not only improved connectivity across the archipelago but also introduced landmark policies, such as the ban on raw mineral and ore exports, to enhance the nation's value-added industries.
"It was an immense honor to serve as his trade minister, but it also came with relentless hard work and immense responsibility. President Jokowi is a tireless leader with a keen eye for detail and a broad understanding of many issues, especially those concerning the people's welfare," said Enggartiasto, now the executive chairman of B-Universe Media Holdings.
Enggartiasto recalled Jokowi's directive to ensure that basic commodities remained available and affordable for all Indonesians, regardless of circumstances.
He also highlighted Jokowi's commitment to national unity, citing his efforts to reconcile with political rivals after elections. As Jokowi nears the end of his presidency, he is ensuring a smooth and peaceful transition of power to his successor, Prabowo Subianto, Enggartiasto said in the presence of the president, who attended the event alongside several ministers.
The two-day summit, held at the Jakarta Convention Center, was co-hosted by state-owned bank BNI and B-Universe.
"This event is perfectly timed, as Indonesia will have a new president in just two weeks. The president-elect, Mr. Prabowo Subianto, has pledged to continue and accelerate the progress made during President Jokowi’s two terms in office," Enggartiasto said.
He added that the BNI Investor Daily Summit provided a platform to exchange views and discuss strategic issues, including reflections on Jokowi's achievements and the future priorities for the incoming government, while assessing Indonesia’s role in an ever-evolving global economy.
