Jakarta. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo congratulated Turkiye's Recep Tayyip Erdogan on his reelection victory on Monday.

"Warmest congratulations to my dear brother President Erdogan of Türkiye on his reelection," Jokowi wrote on his official Twitter account.

"Ready to continue and strengthen Indonesia-Türkiye long-standing strategic partnership, for the benefit of our people," Jokowi said.

Last year, Jokowi hosted a bilateral meeting with Erdogan in Bali ahead of the G20 Summit. The two leaders discussed the bilateral comprehensive economic partnership agreement (CEPA), among others.

“On the existing obstacles, we must instruct the negotiators to immediately seek a solution that is acceptable to both parties. And also to finalize the agreement immediately,” Jokowi told Erdogan, as quoted by the Presidential Secretariat.

The reelection has stretched Erdogan’s rule into a third decade. Erdogan won the presidential race against challenger Kemal Kilicdaroglu after securing 52 percent of the votes.

Government data shows Indonesia-Türkiye trade totaled $2.58 billion in 2022. Indonesian exports that year amounted to $2.07 billion, marking a surplus for the Southeast Asian country. Indonesia-Türkiye trade reached $612 million in the first three months of 2023.
