Jakarta. Authorities in Jakarta have begun repairing and cleaning damaged public facilities following an overnight protest that descended into clashes and vandalism in several areas of Central Jakarta.

In Pejompongan, Tanah Abang, broken glass at a police post and damaged traffic-monitoring CCTV cameras were among the facilities affected by the unrest on Thursday night.

A police post on Pejompongan Raya was found with shattered windows and signs of vandalism on Friday morning. A traffic CCTV camera mounted on a metal pole was also damaged.

Joint teams were deployed to clear debris, clean affected areas and repaint facilities targeted by vandals. The work was aimed at restoring public infrastructure and supporting the resumption of normal activities.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo ordered the city’s Communications, Informatics and Statistics Agency to investigate the destruction of the CCTV camera and identify those responsible.

“Regarding the destruction of the CCTV, I will ask the head of the agency to study who did it and what the purpose was,” Pramono said in South Jakarta on Friday.

He said damage to public facilities, including CCTV equipment owned by the Jakarta administration, could not be justified. Once those responsible are identified, he called for them to face legal action.

Pramono said the Jakarta administration had coordinated with relevant agencies throughout the demonstrations to monitor the situation and ensure the city remained under control.

He added that municipal workers began cleaning damaged areas shortly after the unrest ended at around 12:30 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. Friday.

“As a result, by this morning, relatively everything had returned to normal,” Pramono said.

Meanwhile, repairs were also underway at the main gate of the House of Representatives complex, which was damaged during Thursday’s demonstration.

Workers were seen welding the gate and replacing broken metal sections on Friday morning. Security remained tight around the parliament complex, with personnel from the Mobile Brigade (Brimob) of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police and the Indonesian Military (TNI) deployed in the area.

The heightened security was intended to prevent further disturbances and prepare for the possibility of protesters returning to the complex.

Traffic on Jl. Jenderal Gatot Subroto in front of the parliament complex had also returned to normal by Friday morning. The road had been subject to temporary closures and diversions during Thursday’s demonstration.

In Pejompongan, the situation was similarly reported to be calm. Military personnel continued to guard sections of Pejompongan Raya leading toward Tanah Abang, while public infrastructure and facilities officers cleaned areas affected by the unrest.

Vehicles were again able to pass through the road, with traffic gradually returning to normal despite the continued security presence.

The repairs and cleanup followed a demonstration near parliament on Thursday that initially focused on demands including the passage of the Asset Forfeiture Bill but later escalated into clashes, arson and damage to public property.

Police said several people had been arrested over alleged involvement in the unrest, including individuals suspected of carrying bladed weapons and damaging facilities around the parliament complex.
