Indonesia's World Cup Qualifier Squad: Maarten Paes and Jay Idzes Selected
Jakarta. Indonesia's national football team coach, Shin Tae-yong, has announced a 26-player squad for the upcoming third-round World Cup 2026 qualifiers against Saudi Arabia and Australia.
The Indonesian team will first play against Saudi Arabia at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah on Thursday, Sept. 5, or early Friday, Sept. 6, Jakarta time. They will then face Australia at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta on Tuesday, Sept. 10.
These initial games are critical for the Garuda squad, with securing points in these fixtures significantly boosting their chances of advancing to the World Cup 2026.
Coach Shin Tae-yong has retained key players such as Asnawi Mangkualam, Rizky Ridho, Pratama Arhan, Marselino Ferdinan, Jay Idzes, Justin Hubner, Nathan Tjoe-A-On, Ivar Jenner, Thom Haye, and Rafael Struick in the squad. However, brothers Yakob and Yance Sayuri will miss out due to injuries.
Maarten Paes, the goalkeeper from FC Dallas, receives his first call-up and will join the Garuda squad in Saudi Arabia.
Jay Idzes recently made history as the first Indonesian player to compete in Serie A, Italy's top football league. In his debut with Venezia, Idzes helped secure a point for his team with a 0-0 draw against Fiorentina at the Artemio Franchi Stadium on Sunday.
The team is scheduled to assemble in Jakarta on Thursday, before heading to Saudi Arabia.
