Indonesia vs Malaysia: Battle for a Spot in AFF 2025 Semifinals
Jakarta. Indonesia's U-23 national team will face a crucial match in the AFF U-23 championship against Malaysia at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, Jakarta, on Monday evening.
Despite having secured two victories, Indonesia’s path to the semifinals is not yet guaranteed. Jens Raven and his teammates must secure a win to firmly book their spot in the final four.
In another Group A match, the Philippines will face Brunei Darussalam at Patriot Candrabhaga Stadium, Bekasi. This match will be held simultaneously with the Indonesia vs Malaysia clash.
Currently, the Indonesia U-23 national team tops Group A standings with six points from two wins. In the opening match on Tuesday, July 15, Garuda Muda secured a dominant 8-0 win over Brunei Darussalam.
In that match, Jens Raven put on a stellar performance by scoring six goals. The other two goals were contributed by Arkhan Fikri and Muhammad Rayhan Hannan.
Against the Philippines, Indonesia earned a narrow 1-0 win. The only goal came from an own goal by Philippine defender Jaime Rosquillo, who misjudged a throw-in from Robi Darwis and headed the ball into his own net.
With two victories, Indonesia sits at the top of Group A with six points. The Philippines are in second place with three points, followed by Malaysia who also have three points. Meanwhile, Brunei have been officially eliminated after suffering consecutive defeats to Indonesia and Malaysia.
