Jakarta. Indonesian customs authorities have seized 25 Harley-Davidson motorcycles and motorcycle frames allegedly imported illegally from China after finding discrepancies between import documents and the contents of a shipping container.

The seizure was carried out by the Tanjung Priok Main Customs and Excise Office in North Jakarta after officers detected inconsistencies during an inspection using a container scanner.

The seized goods comprise five complete Harley-Davidson motorcycles and 20 frames for large-capacity motorcycles, according to the customs office.

The authorities said the goods were not properly declared in the import documentation, raising suspicions of violations of Indonesian customs regulations.

The motorcycles and frames were shipped from China by two companies identified by the initials TSA and HPM, authorities said.

Customs officers initially detected the suspected violations after scanning the container and finding that its contents did not match the information stated in the import declaration.

The seized vehicles and frames have been secured as evidence while customs officials conduct a further investigation into how the goods entered Indonesia and the method allegedly used to conceal or misdeclare them.

Authorities are also examining whether the case involved discrepancies in the declared value, type of goods or other import documentation.

The customs office said it would continue to strengthen monitoring of imported goods and take action against vehicles and other commodities brought into Indonesia in violation of customs regulations.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have yet to announce whether any individuals or companies will face charges.
