Jakarta. The Golkar Party is expecting to have a bigger number of cabinet members under the Prabowo Subianto presidency than in the current government.

Golkar Secretary-General Muhammad Sarmuji said on Monday the party has made a significant contribution to Prabowo’s presidential campaign. It also nominated Gibran Rakabuming Raka as Prabowo’s running mate which proved decisive to win the support from the supporters of President Joko Widodo, who is Gibran’s father.

Sarmuji said Prabowo has talked with Golkar Chairman Bahlil Lahadalia about the future cabinet composition and how “Golkar will further contribute to the next government”.

"We believe that the president-elect fully understands Golkar’s significant contribution to his campaign. We have no worry about having the cabinet seat quota for Golkar slashed because we believe that Mr. Prabowo understands that there are many qualified Golkar members who can contribute more to his government," Sarmuji said.

In the current cabinet, Golkar has six representatives including Chief Economic Minister Airlangga Hartarto, Chief Investment Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Dito Ariotedjo, and Vice Trade Minister Jerry Sambuaga.

"We are confident that Golkar will have more ministers in the upcoming government," Sarmuji said.
