Jakarta. The Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) welcomed President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's recent cabinet reshuffle, praising it as a necessary step to ensure a smooth transition of power as Jokowi prepares to conclude his presidency in October.

Jokowi will be succeeded by Gerindra Chairman Prabowo Subianto, who secured a decisive victory in the February presidential election.

The reshuffle included the appointments of a Gerindra executive and the former head of Prabowo's presidential campaign to key ministerial positions.

"The reshuffle in the final two months of the Jokowi presidency is crucial and necessary to ensure the new government can work effectively from day one," said Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, Gerindra's acting chairman.

He described the cabinet changes as part of Jokowi's efforts to facilitate a seamless transition. Prabowo will be joined by Jokowi’s son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, as the new vice president when they take office on October 20.

"There are many aspects that need synchronization, and we requested certain actions to speed up the process," Dasco added without providing further details.

On Monday, Justice Minister Yasonna Laoly and Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Arifin Taslim were dismissed from their posts.

Investment Minister Bahlil Lahadalia was appointed as the new Energy and Mineral Resources Minister, with his former position being filled by Rosan Roeslani, who led Prabowo's presidential campaign.

Additionally, Supratman Andi Agtas, a Gerindra executive, was named the new Justice Minister.
