Bandung. Imam Nahrawi, the former Minister of Youth and Sports convicted in a corruption case, has been granted parole and released from Sukamiskin Prison in Bandung, West Java.

"The release process mandates him to report to the Class I Bandung Probation Office until July 5, 2027," said Medi Oktaviansyah, Head of Inmate Development at Sukamiskin Prison, during an announcement in Bandung on Saturday.

Medi emphasized that Nahrawi's release adhered to regulations, given that he had completed two-thirds of his seven-year prison sentence. According to him, Imam Nahrawi demonstrated good behavior during his incarceration and had fulfilled restitution obligations.

"In addition to serving two-thirds of the sentence, he also complies with the requirements of good behavior and has actively participated in programs at Sukamiskin Class I Prison," he explained.

Furthermore, Nahrawi received a total remission of seven months and 15 days before parole, encompassing special remission, general remission, and additional remission.

Imam Nahrawi was implicated in a bribery case related to the management of grant proposals for KONI (National Sports Committee of Indonesia) and gratuities from various parties, resulting in a seven-year prison sentence in 2020.

In addition to the prison term, Imam faced a fine of Rp 400 million ($25.500) and was directed to pay restitution amounting to Rp 19.15 billion.

The court's verdict also imposed an extra penalty on Imam Nahrawi, stripping him of the right to be elected to public office for five years after completing the primary prison sentence.
