Jakarta. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi arrived in Jakarta on Thursday evening for high-level talks with Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono, including the inaugural Comprehensive Strategic Dialogue (CSD) and the second meeting of the two countries’ 2+2 Dialogue Mechanism.

The meetings will bring together the foreign and defense ministers of both countries to discuss bilateral cooperation as well as regional and global strategic issues.

According to a statement received Thursday, Sugiono welcomed Wang upon his arrival in Jakarta.

Sugiono and Wang will co-chair the inaugural CSD, a new bilateral mechanism at the foreign ministerial level aimed at reviewing progress in bilateral cooperation and setting strategic priorities for the future.

The dialogue mechanism was established during Sugiono’s visit to Beijing in April 2025.

Following the CSD, the Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry will host the second meeting of the Indonesia-China 2+2 Dialogue Mechanism, involving the two countries’ foreign and defense ministers.

The meeting will focus on strengthening political, defense, and security cooperation at the bilateral, regional, and global levels.

The two meetings are part of broader efforts by Indonesia and China to deepen their comprehensive strategic partnership.

Speaking at a media briefing in Jakarta, Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry Director for East Asia Arifianto Sofiyanto said the CSD would place particular emphasis on economic cooperation.

Separately, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said at a press conference in Beijing that the inaugural dialogue would also focus on development and modernization.

“Both sides will focus on better synergy between development strategies, exploring practical measures to deepen the China-Indonesia community with a shared future, and strengthening each country’s modernization,” Lin said.
