BGN Chief Nanik S Deyang Resigns
Jakarta. Nanik S Deyang has resigned as the head of the national nutrition agency BGN, saying that she has decided to step down to undergo medical treatment abroad.
Nanik broke the news on her personal Facebook account on Wednesday.
She said that she was struggling with a heart disease, and wanted to go overseas for a second opinion on her medical conditions. She is also planning to leave the country the same day.
"With a thousand of apologies, I believe I have to step down as BGN chief for the sake of my health. Mr. President [Prabowo Subianto] is concerned and feels sorry for me. He has agreed, but asked me to continue overseeing the agency," Nanik wrote.
BGN is in charge of Prabowo's flagship free meal program, a cost-heavy initiative that has seen some problems in its run. Nanik also claimed that Prabowo was mulling setting up a supervisory board.
"He had asked me to lead this board," Nanik said.
She also joked that she should be able to "nag" despite her conditions.
"What's most important is that I don't have to deal with money. It's traumatizing. I'm scared," Nanik said, while adding three smiling emojis.
Prabowo's aide Dirgayuza Setiawan also confirmed the news of her resignation.
The government has yet to appoint her replacement.
BGN has yet to issue an official statement on her resignation.
Nanik rose to the top position in the agency after the Attorney General's Office (AGO) detained her predecessor Dadan Hindayana in an alleged corruption case. Nanik was a die-hard supporter of Prabowo in past elections and had previously served as BGN's deputy head. The AGO had also left open the possibility of questioning Nanik as part of the investigation.
