Jakarta. Air travel during the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year holiday period saw a clear uptick at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, supported by high passenger demand and the rollout of additional flights by airlines.

The Transportation Ministry’s Director General of Civil Aviation, Lukman F. Laisa, said passenger traffic during the 2025 year-end holiday period reached 82,445 travelers, slightly higher than the 81,500 passengers recorded during the same period last year.

“Passenger load factors remain high, and airlines have realized additional or extra flights to accommodate public demand,” Lukman said in a statement on Monday.

Between Dec. 18 and Dec. 29, authorities issued 285 flight approvals for extra flights to and from Ngurah Rai Airport, with 267 of those flights already operated. The high realization rate reflects airlines’ operational readiness and optimization during the peak holiday season.

Load factors on key domestic routes were notably strong, particularly the Jakarta–Denpasar (CGK–DPS) route, which recorded an average load factor of 94%. Business-class occupancy stood at 83%, while economy-class seats were filled at 94%. Airlines operated 71 additional flights on the route to meet surging demand.

“The high load factor indicates that available seat capacity has been utilized optimally and reflects strong public interest in air travel during the year-end holidays,” Lukman said.

Flight frequency on the Jakarta–Denpasar route remained stable at around 32 to 45 flights per day, with routine operational adjustments common during long holiday periods.

Operational data from Ngurah Rai Airport showed daily aircraft movements averaging 467 flights, up 10.14% year-on-year. Cumulatively, aircraft movements reached 4,787 flights between Dec. 18 and Dec. 28, marking a 2.93% increase from the same period last year.

Passenger movements totaled 82,445 per day, with cumulative traffic of 768,949 passengers over the Dec. 18–28 period. Extra flights realized during that timeframe amounted to 267 services.

The airport’s cumulative on-time performance stood at 67.48%, while the overall load factor reached 74.05%, underscoring sustained pressure on air travel demand during the peak holiday season.
