Bali Airport Reports Canceled Middle East Flights After War Erupts in Iran
Jakarta. Bali Airport announced Saturday night that some airlines have suspended Middle East flights, after US-Israeli strikes on Iran led to the region’s airspace to shut down.
I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport — the main airport to the tourist haven Bali — reported several adjustments to the flights bound to the Middle East. The changes as of 9 p.m. local time are as follows:
-
Etihad EY477 Denpasar to Abu Dhabi (Postponed)
-
Emirates EK369 Denpasar to Dubai (Canceled)

Qatar Airways QR963 Denpasar to Doha (Canceled)
The airport’s spokesperson Gede Eka Sandi Asmadi called on passengers to contact their respective airlines for updates. InJourney Airports — the state-owned firm that manages I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport — will also be in close coordination with other agencies, including the airlines in question.
“... to update flight schedules and handle the passengers who are already in the airport. We will also communicate with the [navigation operator] AirNav Indonesia to monitor the affected airspace, as well as security personnel to anticipate the security situation at the airport,” Sandi said.
Despite the cancellations, the airport continues to operate normally.
Earlier that day, Israel and the US launched a joint attack on Iran after Washington’s nuclear talks with Tehran failed to secure a deal. US President Donald Trump announced that the military campaign aimed to obliterate Iranian nuclear facilities. Tehran has retaliated, with strikes hitting other countries Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates — all hosting US military bases. They have also closed their airspaces in reaction to the missile attacks.
As the regional conflict heats up, Indonesia unveiled a bold move as President Prabowo Subianto intends to act as a mediator. He intends to travel to Tehran to facilitate dialogue, but the plan remains subject to the conflicting parties’ approval.
“The Indonesian government — in this regard, our president — expresses readiness to facilitate dialogue so the security situation will return to a conducive state. If accepted by both sides, the president is willing to head to Tehran for mediation,” a statement by the Foreign Ministry reads.
