Iran Urges Indonesia to Condemn US, Israel Attack
Jakarta. Iran has urged Indonesia to condemn the US and Israel after the duo launched strikes on Tehran on Saturday.
A statement by the Iranian Embassy in Indonesia wrote that the action had violated the UN charter. Tehran also warned that the assault could severely threaten “both regional and global peace”.
“We call on the Indonesian government, including political figures, Muslim organizations, scholars, and the press, to firmly and openly condemn the start of the war and aggression against Iran,” the statement reads.
Iran is planning to exercise its right to self-defense.
The Jakarta Globe has reached out to the Foreign Ministry for Indonesia’s stance on the attack. The Globe also asked the ministry if Jakarta intends to proceed with the evacuation plans. They have not responded to the requests for comments. A day earlier, senior diplomat Heni Hamidah had said that Indonesia “had prepared a contingency plan — including various options for evacuation routes if needed”.
As of June 2025, 386 Indonesians reside in Iran, many of whom are students. They mainly live in the Qom and Isfahan areas.
