All 329 Indonesians in Iran Are Safe After US-Israel Strikes
Jakarta. The government confirmed Saturday that all 329 Indonesians residing in Iran are safe after the US and Israel decided to plunge into a war against Tehran.
Washington has teamed up with Israel to launch a barrage of airstrikes on Iran on Saturday morning. Tehran has fired retaliatory strikes against US military bases in the Gulf. As the Middle East conflict reached a boiling point, Indonesia said that all of its citizens residing in Iran were safe and sound.
“As of 2.30 p.m. local time, we have contacted all Indonesian communities across Iran. They have reported that none of them experience or feel threatened,” Indonesian Ambassador to Iran Rolliansyah “Roy” Soemirat said via an audio recording.
According to Roy, 329 Indonesians are residing in Iran. However, this number comprises the individuals who have registered and are officially recorded in the embassy. Roy said that the embassy would continue to engage in “two-way communications” with all Indonesians across the country.
“Maintaining communications is key so we can best assess what sort of aid and protection our people need,” Roy said.
Beyond citizen protection, Indonesia has unveiled its plan for a possible mediation involving President Prabowo Subianto. If agreed by the parties in conflict, Prabowo will head to Tehran to act as a mediator. However, the travel plan and mediator role are subject to the conflicting parties’ approval. Blasts linked to Iran’s retaliation were reported in Bahrain, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar — all hosting US military bases. The Emirati Foreign Ministry has “condemned and denounced in the strongest terms” Iran’s missile attacks.
The US, Israel, and Indonesia are all part of the newly established Board of Peace. US President Donald Trump initially formed the group to oversee the Gaza truce, but its purpose has morphed into overseeing other global conflicts.
