Jakarta. The Indonesian government has successfully evacuated 40 citizens from conflict-ridden Lebanon, with the evacuees currently in Jordan awaiting flights to Jakarta, an official confirmed on Sunday.

The group traveled overland from Beirut to Damascus, Syria, before being transported to Amman, according to Judha Nugraha, Director of Citizen Protection at the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

"The evacuees consist of 40 Indonesian citizens and a foreign spouse. They are now safe in Amman, Jordan," Judha said in a statement.

The government has arranged two commercial flights to bring the evacuees back to Indonesia later today.

The first group of 21 evacuees will depart from Amman aboard a Qatar Airways flight at 6 p.m. local time. The second group, consisting of 20 Indonesians, will leave at 10:10 p.m. local time on an Emirates flight, with both groups expected to arrive at Soekarno-Hatta Airport near Jakarta by Monday afternoon.

Judha added that 25 Indonesian citizens have already returned from Lebanon.

The ministry estimates that 116 Indonesian citizens remain in Lebanon, with 83 of them residing in Beirut.
