On a cool Sunday morning, the streets of Bandung filled with energy, laughter, and sneakers pounding the pavement as 1,000 runners gathered for the much-anticipated eL Run 2025. But this wasn’t just another fun run -- it was a celebration of fitness, culture, and community, wrapped into the city’s 215th birthday.

This year’s theme, “Modern Heritage,” wasn’t just a slogan. The 7-kilometer course took runners past some of Bandung’s most iconic landmarks -- from Gedung Merdeka, where Asia-Africa leaders once gathered, to Jalan Banceuy, where narrow streets whisper stories of the past. Participants even passed Banceuy Prison, where Indonesia’s founding father Sukarno was once jailed by the Dutch colonial government in 1929.

By the time the last runner crossed the finish line in a city nicknamed the Paris of Java, it was clear that eL Run 2025 had once again delivered more than miles on the road. It gave participants memories of shared laughter, sore muscles, historic landmarks rediscovered, and a sense of being part of something bigger.

For actor and running enthusiast Tarra Budiman, the route was an eye-opener.

“I realized while running there are so many historic places in Bandung I’d never visited before,” he said. “This experience adds something special -- you exercise, but you also learn about the city’s history.”

A City Built on Collaboration
Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan stressed that the event was about more than fitness. It was also about community spirit.

“Bandung is not about competition, it’s about collaboration,” he told the crowd at the starting line in front of eL Hotel Bandung. “We build this city together -- government, businesses, and residents alike.”

The eL Run, organized by éL Group, perfectly captured that spirit: a mix of public celebration, private sponsorship, and community participation.

For organizers, the event was also part of a bigger vision: promoting sport tourism.

Enggartiasto Lukita, Chairman of éL Group and B-Universe Media Holdings, explained that the chosen route was no accident.

“We wanted participants to enjoy Bandung’s rich heritage while also experiencing its modern side. It’s a way of combining fitness with culture and tourism.”

Indeed, the sight of hundreds of runners weaving past heritage buildings created an atmosphere that felt more like a city-wide festival than a race.

Smiles, Sweat, and Surprises
Of course, no fun run is complete without prizes, and this year’s giveaways made sure no one went home empty-handed. Beyond the medals and finisher kits, participants eagerly awaited the door prize drawing.

Two lucky runners -- Sri Endarti from Bandung and Triwahyuni from Jakarta -- each rolled home with a brand-new motorcycle.

For Sri, the win was extra sweet.

“It’s unbelievable -- and the motorbike is purple, my favorite color!” she said, still in disbelief. “In 2023, I didn’t win anything. In 2024, I got a cap and a microphone. And this year -- finally -- a motorbike.”

Triwahyuni, who joined the event as part of a weekend trip, said she already felt like a winner just by being there.

“I came from Jakarta not just to run but also to enjoy Bandung’s scenery and heritage. Winning the motorbike was just the cherry on top,” she laughed.
