Jakarta. Actor and former softball athlete Donny Kesuma passed away on Friday evening while undergoing treatment for a heart problem at a Jakarta hospital. He was 55 years old.

His former wife, Yuni Indrianti, confirmed the news when contacted by reporters, saying Donny died after receiving treatment at the intensive care unit at 7:19 p.m.

The couple had three sons during their 18 years of marriage, which ended after Yuni filed for divorce in 2017. Despite the divorce, they maintained an amicable relationship for the sake of their children.

His son, Ghassan Indira Kesuma, revealed on Sunday that Donny had been using a heart ring since being diagnosed with a heart problem in 2015.

Donny was previously recognized as an athlete who contributed to the Indonesian softball team's gold medal win at the 1997 Southeast Asian Games.

Around the same time, he ventured into the entertainment industry, securing a role in the television miniseries "Bidadari Yang Terluka" (The Wounded Angel), which marked the beginning of his career as a movie and TV actor.

He also appeared in various advertisement campaigns, notably serving as the brand ambassador for the local supplement drink company Kuku Bima.

In a YouTube video posted on Sunday, Donny said he continued to represent Kuku Bima, which is owned by the herbal medicine company Sido Muncul.

He expressed gratitude to Sido Muncul CEO Irwan Hidayat for entrusting him with the role of brand ambassador for life.

“Praise be to God, he continued to entrust me with the role of a manly figure for the brand to this date,” Donny said in the video.

The brand typically selected prominent male figures for its extensive advertisement campaigns, including famous bodybuilder Ade Rai, former world champion boxer Chris Jon, and former national football team striker Bambang Pamungkas.

Since 1997, Donny has appeared in at least 10 movies and 25 TV miniseries.
