Toyota Indonesia Recalls Popular Models Avanza, Raize over Airbag Issue
Jakarta. Toyota is recalling its three popular models in Indonesia manufactured between December 2022 and January 2023 due to airbag problems.
The recall covers Avanza, Veloz, and Raize vehicles which enjoy a very high demand in the country.
Toyota Astra Motor, the local unit of Toyota Motor Corp, advises owners of the specified models to go to the nearest authorized repair shops to undergo inspections of the electronic control unit (ECU) for the airbag system and get a replacement of the component if a fault is detected.
The company said the recall was based on a recent finding of a suspected malfunction in a capacitor of the ECU that could prevent the airbag from inflating during a crash.
“In accordance with the global initiative by our principal Toyota Motor Corp, we have issued recalls for years in our commitment to the safety of our customers,” Toyota Astra Motor President Henry Tanoto was quoted as saying by Antara news agency on Tuesday.
Henry said the airbag inspection and replacement of the ECU will take just an hour and affected customers won’t be charged for the service and new components. Market leader Toyota has 298 authorized repair shops across the country.
But Henry didn’t say how many vehicles are affected by the recall.
Toyota sold more than 331,000 cars in Indonesia last year to control 32 percent of the national automotive market share. The combined sales of Avanza and its upgraded model Veloz stood at 92,641.
