Tax Office Assures Data Security as Coretax System Under Scrutiny
Jakarta. Indonesia’s tax authority has moved to reassure the public that taxpayer data remains secure, saying its systems are regularly audited by state cybersecurity and digital agencies amid concerns over data protection.
The Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) said personal and administrative data submitted through its tax system are protected through routine oversight, including audits by the National Cyber and Encryption Agency (BSSN) and the Communications and Digital Ministry.
Tax chief Bimo Wijayanto said system security is continuously tested, including through stress tests conducted by independent institutions.
“Taxpayer data is very secure because we are regularly audited by BSSN on network security and by the Communications Ministry on personal data protection. Stress tests are also consistently carried out by institutions tasked with reviewing our system,” Bimo said at the Central Jakarta Medium Tax Office on Thursday.
His remarks come in response to public concerns over the safety of sensitive information submitted during annual tax filings, which include personal and financial data processed through the DJP system.
Bimo acknowledged that the core tax administration system, known as Coretax, is still being refined. However, he said services for taxpayers continue to operate at full capacity across the country.
“We recognize that our core tax administration system is not yet perfect, but our services are delivered with full commitment,” he said.
To ensure smooth filing, DJP has deployed additional support, with tax offices and regional branches extending services, including on weekends. The agency is also conducting direct outreach to corporations requiring assistance.
“Our teams across all tax offices and regional units continue to serve without interruption, even on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays,” Bimo said.
The efforts come as Indonesia enters the peak period for filing annual corporate income tax returns for the 2025 fiscal year.
As of Thursday at noon, DJP recorded around 12.7 million tax returns submitted, or roughly 84% of its 15 million target.
