Kargo Technologies to Electrify 500 Trucks in Indonesia Next Year
Jakarta. Indonesia-based logistics platform Kargo Technologies has begun deploying electric trucks, and the company is eyeing to electrify hundreds of heavy motor vehicles by the end of next year.
The company’s director, Marselinus Erick, said that Kargo had tried out by electrifying 20 units over the past three months, although he did not disclose the names of the companies that had rented its trucks. These customers are mainly in the e-commerce and quick commerce fields. Kargo also offers rental, financing, and fleet procurement schemes for companies to quickly shift to electric fleets.
“We are in a pilot phase for this year, but we are confident that we can boost the number of electrified trucks to 500 units by the end of 2026. We will try to look for new use cases for the customers,” Marselinus told the press in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Kargo’s electric truck rollout will focus on Java first, as the electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure in other parts of the Indonesian archipelago is limited. In 2026, the venture-backed platform will start with the Greater Jakarta area.
“We will then expand to Surabaya and Bandung in the following years,” Marselinus said.
The company has set a goal for an EV deployment of a whopping 40,000 units within ten years from now.
