Jakarta. Japanese automaker Suzuki on Thursday unveiled its first electric vehicle in Indonesia, introducing the e-Vitara at the Indonesia International Motor Show held at the Jakarta International Expo.

Indonesia's EV demand has been increasing steadily in the past three years, but only a few Japanese models are in the Indonesian EV market heavily dominated by Chinese brands.

Developed from Suzuki’s Vitara model, the e-Vitara is positioned as a five-seat family electric SUV.

“The launch of the e-Vitara marks a new chapter in Suzuki’s journey in Indonesia,” said Minoru Amano, president director of Suzuki Indomobil Motor.

Amano said Indonesia is playing a historic role for the brand, as the e-Vitara is Suzuki’s global EV product being introduced to the market here for the first time.

The model has been tailored for Indonesian road conditions, featuring a 2.7-meter wheelbase and an overall length of around 4.3 meters.

The e-Vitara is powered by a 61 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery paired with a front-wheel-drive electric motor delivering 128 kW of power and 193 Nm of torque. Using DC fast charging, the battery can be replenished from 15% to 80% in about 50 minutes.

Comfort and infotainment features include electrically adjustable seats, an Infinity audio system, and smartphone connectivity via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Safety technologies include Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, seven airbags, anti-lock braking, a 360-degree camera system, and Hill Hold Control.

The Suzuki e-Vitara is priced from Rp 755 million ($44,820) on the road in Jakarta.
