Jakarta. Indonesia’s benchmark Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) opened the week higher on Monday, briefly touching a fresh intraday record as investors weighed global risks against upbeat domestic prospects.

The JCI climbed 23 points, or 0.25%, to as high as 9,098 in early trade, moving within a range of 9,073 to 9,109 and marking a new all-time intraday high.

Trading activity was active in the opening minutes, with volume reaching 5.17 billion shares and turnover totaling Rp 2.55 trillion ($150.75 million). Market breadth was mixed, with 265 stocks advancing, 259 declining, and 178 unchanged.

Pilarmas Investindo Sekuritas said investors are likely to remain cautious amid elevated geopolitical tensions and a busy global data calendar that could heighten market volatility. The brokerage pointed to rising US–Europe trade frictions and said markets are closely watching key US indicators, including GDP, PCE inflation, and consumer sentiment, ahead of the Federal Reserve’s policy meeting later this month.

Pilarmas also noted that rising bond yields are fueling expectations of an economic recovery and could signal an early rotation from bonds into equities. While it sees room for further stock gains, the firm cautioned that short-term corrections remain possible.

On the domestic front, Pilarmas struck a more constructive tone, highlighting the government’s Rp 2,100 trillion investment target for 2026, particularly in sustainable sectors. Renewable energy — especially geothermal — was cited as the most attractive area for foreign investors and a potential medium-term tailwind for Indonesia’s equity market and macroeconomic stability.

Global cues were mixed after Wall Street closed slightly lower on Friday, ending the first full week of the earnings season near record levels. The S&P 500 slipped 0.1% to 6,940, just below its record set earlier in the week. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.2% to 49,359, while the Nasdaq Composite eased 0.1% to 23,515. All three major indexes posted weekly losses.

Technology stocks helped limit declines, with gains in several large-cap names offsetting weakness in other sectors. Investors are closely scrutinizing earnings, particularly from technology companies, to assess consumer spending trends and whether lofty valuations driven by enthusiasm for artificial intelligence are justified.

“Despite the strong start to 2026, we would not be surprised if markets experience volatility in the coming weeks as fourth-quarter earnings progress and the threat of escalating geopolitical tensions remains,” Doug Beath, global equity strategist at Wells Fargo Investment Institute, wrote in a note to investors.

Asian markets mostly followed Wall Street lower on Monday. Japan’s Nikkei slid 1% to 53,390, South Korea’s Kospi fell 0.22% to 4,829, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng dropped 0.76% to 26,641, and China’s Shanghai Composite eased 0.26% to 4,090.
