Jakarta Stocks Rise as IDX Expands HSC List, Raising Selling Pressure Risks
Jakarta. Indonesian stocks opened higher on Monday, gaining 15 points, or 0.26%, to 6,109 as investors weighed domestic market transparency measures against renewed geopolitical tensions and a packed week of global economic releases.
Jakarta Composite Index moved between 6,109 and 6,128 in early trading. Around 1.09 billion shares had changed hands, with a total transaction value of Rp 244.14 billion ($13.64 million) across 51,878 transactions.
A total of 294 stocks advanced, 147 declined and 250 remained unchanged.
Phintraco Sekuritas said the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) and the Indonesia Central Securities Depository (KSEI) had expanded shareholder ownership data to include 39 investor classifications and types, with additional information distinguishing domestic and foreign ownership to strengthen market transparency.
The two institutions have also expanded the High Shareholding Concentration (HSC) list to cover stocks with market capitalizations above Rp 5 trillion.
“This could potentially increase selling pressure on stocks included on the list in the short term,” Phintraco Sekuritas said.
Overseas, Wall Street closed higher on Friday, supported by gains in technology stocks, slightly lower oil prices and optimism surrounding the quarterly earnings season and growth prospects for the artificial intelligence (AI) sector.
The S&P 500 rose 0.59%, the Nasdaq 100 gained 0.64% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 0.83%.
US President Donald Trump said Russia had agreed to supply diesel fuel to the US market and the global market. Meanwhile, the University of Michigan’s preliminary consumer sentiment index fell to 46.3 in October 2026, its lowest level since May.
Phintraco Sekuritas said investors were monitoring developments in the Middle East after Houthi attacks on a Saudi Arabian airport reignited geopolitical tensions, potentially driving oil prices higher again.
Global investors are also turning their attention to the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank in Bangkok from Oct. 12 to 18. The meetings take place amid elevated energy costs and public debt, volatile bond markets and rising interest rates.
Markets will watch speeches by central bank officials from around the world and the release of the IMF’s latest World Economic Outlook on Tuesday.
In the United States, investors are awaiting consumer price index (CPI) and producer price index (PPI) data due this week, alongside third-quarter 2026 earnings reports from several major US companies.
Across regional markets, South Korea’s Kospi fell 2.36% as of 9:19 a.m. Jakarta time, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index rose 0.52% and the Shanghai Composite Index slipped 0.13%. Japan’s stock market was closed for a national holiday.
