Jakarta Stocks Rise 1.15% on Iran Ceasefire Optimism, BI Measures
Jakarta. Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) rose 1.15% or 81 points to close at 7,174 on Thursday, supported by improving global sentiment over easing Middle East tensions and fresh measures to stabilize the rupiah.
RTI data showed trading volume reached 42.3 billion shares with turnover totaling Rp 23.1 trillion ($1.33 billion) from more than 2.6 million transactions. Gainers outnumbered losers 361 to 295, while 160 stocks were unchanged.
Brokerage Pilarmas Investindo Sekuritas said the rally tracked gains across most Asian markets after renewed hopes emerged over a potential end to the conflict in the Middle East.
“Market sentiment improved after reports said the United States and Iran are considering a new proposal to end the war,” Pilarmas wrote in its research note.
According to the brokerage, Washington has submitted a one-page memorandum of understanding, while Iran is expected to respond within the next few days. However, US President Donald Trump warned military action could resume if Tehran fails to comply with the proposed agreement.
Pilarmas added investors were also closely watching a planned meeting next week between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, which could shape global trade relations and broader economic stability.
Domestically, sentiment improved after President Prabowo Subianto approved seven new measures proposed by Bank Indonesia to strengthen the rupiah.
“The policies are expected to improve market confidence amid pressure on the rupiah caused by heightened global volatility,” Pilarmas added.
Among top gainers, Dua Putra Utama Makmur (DPUM) surged 35%, followed by Sinergi Inti Plastindo (ESIP), which jumped 34.15%. Olympus Strategic Indonesia (NATO) and Caturkarda Depo Bangunan (DEPO) both advanced 25%.
On the losing side, Ricky Putra Globalindo (RICY) fell 11.9%, while Asuransi Bina Dana Arta (ABDA) dropped 11.76%. Haloni Jane (HALO) declined 10.99% and Argo Pantes (ARGO) slid 10.36%.
Asian markets broadly rallied on Thursday, led by Japan’s Nikkei 225, which surged nearly 6% as investors awaited further developments on a possible US-Iran agreement that could reopen crude shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 has gained nearly 20% over the past three months and more than 70% in the past year, driven by strong demand for technology and semiconductor-related shares tied to the artificial intelligence boom.
Chip equipment maker Tokyo Electron rose 9%, while testing equipment producer Advantest Corp. climbed 6.8%. Shin-Etsu Chemical gained 8.5%.
“I think it’s a kind of bubble because buying activity is concentrated in leading AI and semiconductor-related stocks. It’s a situation where only semiconductor stocks are being bought,” said Takashi Hiroki.
Elsewhere in Asia, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index rose 1.7% to 26,668.
Global markets rallied overnight after Trump said the Strait of Hormuz could be “open to all” if Iran accepts a reported agreement, though the US president did not provide further details.
Oil prices tumbled nearly 8%, while the S&P 500 climbed 1.5% for its best day in nearly a month and reached another record high. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1.2%, while the Nasdaq Composite gained 2%.
