Indonesia’s Investor Base Doubles in Five Years, Crosses 20 Million Mark
Jakarta. The number of investors in Indonesia’s capital market has surpassed 20 million for the first time, reflecting rapid growth in retail participation driven by digital investment platforms and wider financial inclusion.
Data from Indonesia’s central securities depository (KSEI) show the investor count reached 20.13 million as of Dec. 19, 2025, up 35% from a year earlier.
“This increase reflects the broadening participation of the public in our capital market,” KSEI President Director Samsul Hidayat said during the company’s 28th anniversary celebration in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Indonesia’s investor base has grown sharply over the past five years. The number stood at 3.88 million in 2020, rising to 7.49 million in 2021, 10.31 million in 2022, 12.17 million in 2023, and 14.87 million in 2024, before crossing the 20 million threshold this year.
The total number of Single Investor Identification (SID) accounts reached 24.93 million as of Dec. 19, up 27% from a year earlier. KSEI said the figure is higher than the number of individual investors because many people invest in more than one product, such as stocks, mutual funds, and government bonds.
Mutual fund investors made up the largest share, with 18.99 million SID accounts recorded in the S-Invest system, an increase of 35% from 2024.
Accounts registered in C-BEST, KSEI’s main system for stock and bond settlement, totaled 8.5 million, up 33% year-on-year. Meanwhile, investors holding Indonesian government bonds (SBN) reached 1.41 million, a 17% increase from last year.
Samsul attributed the strong growth to rising financial literacy and inclusion, supported by the expansion of digital investment services. “The digital investment ecosystem has made the capital market more accessible to all segments of society,” he said.
