Indonesia’s FX Reserves Dip $200 M to $146.3 B in September
Jakarta. Indonesia’s foreign exchange reserves edged down to $146.3 billion in September 2026, from $146.5 billion a month earlier, as government external debt repayments offset foreign borrowing and tax and services revenue.
Bank Indonesia’s Head of Communications Ramdan Denny Prakoso said the September position was mainly influenced by inflows from government external borrowing and tax and services revenue, which were partly offset by payments on maturing government external debt.
The reserves were also affected by Bank Indonesia’s efforts to stabilize the rupiah amid continued high uncertainty in global financial markets.
“Bank Indonesia considers the current reserve position sufficient to support external sector resilience and maintain macroeconomic and financial system stability,” Ramdan said in an official statement received Wednesday.
The September reserve position was equivalent to 5.3 months of imports, or 5.2 months of imports and government external debt payments, well above the international adequacy standard of around three months of imports.
Bank Indonesia expects external sector resilience to remain strong, supported by adequate reserves and foreign capital inflows as investors maintain a positive view of Indonesia’s economic prospects and attractive investment returns.
“Bank Indonesia continues to strengthen coordination with the government to reinforce external resilience and maintain economic stability in support of sustainable economic growth,” Ramdan said.
