Jakarta. Jakarta stocks opened higher on Monday, extending gains after weaker-than-expected US jobs data fueled hopes that the Federal Reserve will keep interest rates unchanged this month, while domestic policy remains focused on supporting the rupiah without tightening monetary policy.

Jakarta Composite Index rose 18 points, or 0.3%, to 6,055 in early trading, moving between 6,054 and 6,081. About 3.31 billion shares changed hands in the opening minutes, with total transactions reaching Rp 388.5 billion ($21.7 million) across 63,579 trades. A total of 350 stocks gained, 128 declined and 220 were unchanged.

Phintraco Sekuritas said weaker-than-expected US employment data provided fresh support for the domestic market by strengthening expectations that the Fed would not raise interest rates at its October meeting.

“US nonfarm payrolls came in below expectations, raising hopes that the Fed will not raise interest rates this month,” Phintraco Sekuritas wrote in its research note on Monday.

US stocks ended higher on Friday. The S&P 500 gained 0.73%, while the Nasdaq Composite rose 1.19% to close at a record 27,190. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.49%.

US nonfarm payrolls increased by just 29,000 in September, slowing sharply from 133,000 in August and falling short of the 90,000 estimate. The unemployment rate rose to 4.2% from 4.1%.

US stocks closed below their intraday highs as US Treasury yields reversed higher after initially declining.

In commodities, oil prices edged lower after G7 countries announced plans to release 100 million barrels from their strategic reserves over the next four months. Spot gold fell 0.8% to $4,145 per troy ounce amid a stronger US dollar and higher US bond yields.

Phintraco said global investors would continue to monitor developments in the Middle East conflict and movements in government bond markets.

In the US, investors are expected to focus on the Federal Open Market Committee minutes, the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) Services Purchasing Managers’ Index and preliminary Michigan Consumer Sentiment data.

The FOMC minutes are due Wednesday, with investors looking for further clues on the Fed’s monetary policy outlook. Lower-than-expected PCE inflation and nonfarm payrolls, along with dovish comments from several Fed officials, have strengthened expectations that the central bank will keep rates unchanged in October.

Domestically, investors will monitor several economic indicators this week, including foreign exchange reserves on Oct. 7, the consumer confidence index on Oct. 8, and retail sales and automotive sales on Oct. 9.

Additionally, Kiwoom Sekuritas Indonesia said Bank Indonesia remains focused on maintaining rupiah stability amid a higher-for-longer global interest rate environment without raising the BI-Rate.

“To maintain exchange rate stability while attracting foreign capital, BI is providing incentives in the form of reduced hedging costs, which since being implemented in September 2026 have been used to facilitate around $7 billion in capital inflows,” Kiwoom said.

BI is also optimizing its macroprudential policies to support economic growth, particularly in the housing sector.

As of September 2026, utilization of the Macroprudential Liquidity Incentive (KLM) for the housing, real estate and construction sectors had reached Rp 118 trillion, or 1.32% of the 1.4% limit. The facility had been used by 111 banks.

As of 9:10 a.m. Jakarta time, Tokyo’s Nikkei gained 2.49%, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng fell 0.38%. Shanghai’s SSE rose 0.31%.

Seoul’s Kospi was closed for a national holiday.
