Indonesia’s Budget Deficit Hits 0.76% of GDP
Jakarta. Indonesia’s budget deficit has reached 0.76% of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) in the first half of 2026.
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa announced Tuesday that the government had spent Rp 1,656 trillion, or roughly $92 billion, throughout 2026. Despite an increase, the budget deficit remains within the legal 3% of GDP cap, as the shortfall reached Rp 196.5 trillion from January to June 2026. Indonesia had also projected its budget deficit to be no more than 2.68% this year.
State revenue also reached around Rp 1,459.4 trillion as of end-June 2026, up by 21.4% year-on-year (yoy). Tax receipts reached Rp 1,035.7 trillion. Some Rp 145 trillion had come from customs and excise.
“We registered a 17.8% yoy growth on spending [in the first half of 2026]. … Primary balance is at a surplus of Rp 85.1 trillion,” Purbaya told a press conference in Jakarta.
“We are optimistic that the state budget will continue to be an effective instrument in maintaining stability, supporting economic growth and development.”
