Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto had told his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko of Indonesia’s commitment to completing the remaining regulatory work for the Eurasian trade deal, which could enable tariff cuts and greater inflows of fertilizers.

Late last year, Indonesia had inked a tariff-slashing trade pact with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). This $2.56 trillion bloc unites Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia. Lukashenko had already signed this trade deal into law. The same goes for EAEU’s economic powerhouse, Russia.

Speaking in front of the press and Lukashenko himself, Prabowo said that Indonesia would eventually ratify the pact. However, he did not give any clear timeline of when Jakarta aims to wrap up the lawmaking process.

“We are currently in the process of ratifying the deal,” Prabowo said.

Indonesia-Belarus trade totaled $221.3 million in 2025, official statistics show. Indonesia registered a $62 million deficit that year following $117.1 million worth of fertilizer imports.

“There is potential for a complementary partnership to beef up cooperation in modern agriculture and fertilizers.”

In a statement, the group’s executive body Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) had wrote that the deal would cut Indonesia’s average rate on its goods by fivefold from 10.2% to 2%. The free trade agreement also covers concessions for fertilizers.
