Jakarta. Indonesia’s oil production averaged 619,000 barrels per day (bpd) in September 2025, surpassing the government’s state budget target of 605,000 bpd, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia announced on Tuesday.

Bahlil said cumulative oil lifting from January through early October ranged between 605,000 and 607,000 bpd, reflecting steady improvement across key upstream fields.

“The 2025 oil production target will be achieved -- even exceeding the projection set in the state budget. These figures have also been verified by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS),” Bahlil said at his office in Jakarta.

To sustain momentum, the ministry recently launched a tender for nine new oil and gas working areas, aimed at attracting both domestic and foreign investors while strengthening the country’s long-term energy security.

The nine exploration blocks and their potential reserves include:

1. Natuna D Alpha — study by KUFPEC; potential 2,865 million barrels of oil (MMBO) and 46 trillion cubic feet (TCF) of gas.
2. Southwest Andaman — study by Mubadala; potential 3,085 billion standard cubic feet (BSCF) of gas.
3. Jalu — study by Armada Etan; potential 2,965 BSCF of gas.
4. Karunia Block — study by Texcal Mahato; potential 82 MMBO and 132 BSCF.
5. Muara Tembesi — study by Tenang Wijaya Sejahtera; potential 56 MMBO and 953 BSCF.
6. Abar-Anggursi — potential 357 MMBO and 1,804 BSCF.
7. Barong — study by Inpex; potential 2,911 BSCF.
8. Drawa — study by BP and consortium; potential 360 BSCF.
9. Bintuni — study by BP and consortium; potential 2.1 TCF.

Indonesia, once a leading member of OPEC, has seen its oil output decline over the past two decades due to aging fields and limited new discoveries. The government aims to boost production to 1 million barrels per day by 2030, supported by new investment incentives, exploration licensing, and technological upgrades.
